Epl Tendon
Extensor pollicis longus epl tendon the epl straightens the most distal farthest from your body joint of the thumb.
Epl tendon. The tendon of epl is located over the back of the wrist where it bends through a tunnel adjacent to a slight prominence of bone. This tendon straightens the end joint of the thumb and also helps pull the thumb in towards the index finger. Extensor pollicis longus epl is a tendon which runs on the back side of the wrist and is confined to a tight tunnel. It is much larger than the extensor pollicis brevis the origin of which it partly covers and acts to stretch the thumb together with this muscle.
This tendon helps to straighten the end joint of the thumb and is essential to maintain hand span and to position the thumb in relation to the other fingers. Unfortunately this arrangement makes the tendon prone to damage from various causes and then it can rupture. This oblique direction is so that it can pull the thumb up and back as if trying to hitchhike. The long extensor tendon to the thumb is called the extensor pollicis longus epl.
The tendon runs around a bony prominence on the back of the wrist called listers tubercle.
